OUR VALUES

Manaaki Kapiti is an iwi lead initiative, guided by a set of traditional values that make up the foundation of our Māori worldview:

  • Manaakitanga: We put into action our indigenous responsibility to care for and protect all people within our mana whenua rohe.

  • Kōtahitanga: We work together to achieve collective aspirations of whānau, hapū, iwi and community.

  • Wairuatanga: We know that wairuatanga is enhanced when there are opportunities to express our tikanga, kawa and mātauranga Māori.

  • Whakapapa: Our identity and kinship connects us to place and gives us a sense of belonging.

  • Rangatiratanga: We set out to achieve our aspirations for iwi prosperity through iwi-leadership

  • Te Reo: Our language is integral to who we are.

  • Kaitiakitanga: As iwi Māori, we have a unique connection with the natural environment – and enact our indigenous obligations as guardians to safeguard for future generations.

  • Whanaungatanga: We understand the significance of connectivity , we identify and celebrate everything that connects us –who we have been, who we are and who we will be.

  • Pūkengatanga: Our people are equipped with knowledge and skills to succeed.

  • Ūkaipōtanga: Is how we identify our connections with place, for us - our marae is a place where our people want to come to and where they feel included, nourished and have a sense of belonging.
